Hey! Welcome to my blog. My name is Samantha Brickman and I am writing this to document my my experience and journey through my AICE Media Studies film opening. My film opening is going to be part of the romantic comedy genre. I chose this genre because almost all of my favorite movies come from this genre and I have grown up watching these movies. I love this genre because it allows me to escpae from my reality and enter a fictional world where two characters have to solve their problems and find their way to eachother in the end. Movie like these have shown me the beauty of love as well as how it can change one's entire world in a split second. I believe that I can make a great film opening in this genre because I know the basics of what a opening like this should be. I have watched so many of these movies and know how to establish a great opening. Thanks for reading my first blog post! Stay tuned for more updates on my project!

The Filming Process: UPDATES!!

Actually filming my opening was so much fun!! Spoiler alert: I ended up changing my entire script for so many reasons. I hated it and it wouldn't have been possible with the people who said they would help me. Anyway, I had my best friend as my actor and we really enjoyed working together. My new script was so much better and it felt for natural for me to direct rather then trying to do something that I didn't know the outcome.  I love "He's Just Not That Into You" and still admire their opening, but I could have never done it as amazing and would have criticized myself too harshly. Instead, my new mix was between a 2000s teen rom com with the catchy song intro and a Disney Channel Original movie. It took me almost 2 hours to find the perfect song as I wanted one that sounded like "Perfect Day" by Hoku. I feel like I did a great job with the creative process, the filming, and the directing and I can't wait for you all to see it!

THE SCRIPT WRITING PROCESS!

 Hey everyone! So it's been a little while but I started writing my script!! Exciting right? Well through this process I've had a lot of time to reflect on my piece as well as many that have inspired me.  For starters, I have been saying since the beginning that I wanted an intro similar to that of He's Just Not That Into You . As I started to write, I honestly couldn't think of a way to make it happen. It was definitely a tricky tactic that would take forever for me to get right. While I didn't take that method, I still took something from the movie. The phone call interaction in the bar inspired me to translate that into our society, or at least attempt to. My Inspirations For My Film Opening (aka my favorite rom coms of all time)

My theme for my film opening is to involve aspects of a romantic comedy and blend in other themes from different rom-com movies. The following 5 stills and clips are some aspects of a romantic comedy that I would like to implement.   1: He's Just Not That Into You Ever since I first saw this movie I fell in love with it. It's quirky, funny, and follows multiple women through their stories, which ends up clashing in the end. My absolute favorite part of this movie is the introduction. It talks about the unsaid truth that all young girls have thought, which is that if boys are mean to you then they like you. The whole point of the movie was to negate this theory and it does end up slightly working. I would love to attempt to try different clips of scenes all talking about the same topic like we see here.
